The Mulberries are an amateur dramatics group based in Doveridge, between Uttoxeter and Ashbourne. We produce an annual pantomime around Christmas and a summer play towards the end of June. The group undertakes almost every aspect of the productions - making stage sets, props, costumes as well as directing and producing. We have back stage crews and Front of House teams. So if acting is not your scene (forgive the pun!!), but you’d like to help out with any of the support activities, you would be very welcome.
I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.
- Oscar Wilde
Whatever your talent – we can find a good home for it
Have you ever watched performers on the stage and thought “I wish I could do that”? We’re sure that you could – if you tried. If appearing on the stage doesn’t appeal to you, have you ever thought of working behind the scenes? If you can wield a hammer or a needle you could join the set-building or costume team – you’d be amazed how satisfying it is to see the finished production and think “I made that!”. Or how about designing the scenery? Maybe you’re interested in lighting? Could you create a poster? Could you help with publicity?
Our youngest member is 12, and there's no upper age limit! If you have always had a desire to ‘tread the boards’ or to help ‘behind the scenes’, and would like to join the group or get involved with the production then e mail Kevin Chidlow, or come along to one of the rehearsals. No audition is required and everyone is welcome no matter how inexperienced.
